How to convert JPG to WebP
Choose a JPG
Select a JPG or JPEG file from your device, or drag it onto the upload area.
Set the quality
80 is a good balance for most photos. Lower it for a smaller file, or raise it for more detail.
Convert and download
Compare the JPG and WebP file sizes, then download your WebP.
Why use WebP?
WebP was designed for the web. It usually produces smaller files than JPG at similar quality, so pages load faster and use less data. That makes it a good choice for images on your own website, online store or blog.
For sending photos to other people, printing, or uploading to forms that ask for JPG, keep a JPG copy: it is still the most widely accepted format.
Frequently asked questions
Is this JPG to WebP converter free?
Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limit on how many images you convert.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Your JPG is converted in your browser, on your device. It is never uploaded.
Will the WebP be smaller than my JPG?
Usually, yes: WebP compresses photos more efficiently than JPG at similar visual quality. The saving depends on the image and the quality you choose, and a JPG that is already heavily compressed may not get smaller.
Is the conversion lossless?
No. The WebP is created with lossy compression, like JPG, so some fine detail is discarded to reduce the file size. At the default quality the difference is usually hard to see.
Which quality should I choose?
80 works well for most photos on websites. Use 85–95 when detail matters, and 60–75 when the smallest file matters more than fine detail.
Why doesn't this work in Safari?
Safari can display WebP images but can't create them in the browser, and on iPhone and iPad other browsers generally can't either. Use Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer or Android device.
Can every browser show WebP images?
All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari can display WebP. Some older software and upload forms still only accept JPG or PNG, so keep your original if you need it elsewhere.
