How to convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Choose a HEIC photo

Select a .heic or .heif photo, for example one copied from an iPhone or iPad to your computer.

  2. Convert to JPG

Check the preview, then convert. The photo stays upright and at full size.

  3. Download the JPG

Download a JPG that opens in any app and uploads to any website.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC to use less storage. That works well on Apple devices, but when you copy the photos to a Windows PC, attach them to a form or upload them to a website, the HEIC file often won't open or is rejected. JPG works almost everywhere.

To make your iPhone save new photos as JPG, open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. Photos you already took stay HEIC, which is what this converter is for.

Converted in your browser

Your image is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to Pixyro for conversion. Most browsers can't read HEIC themselves, so the first time you convert a photo, your browser downloads Pixyro's HEIC decoder (about 400 KB). It then decodes the photo on your device, and the JPG is created there too.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no limit on how many photos you convert.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Your photo is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to Pixyro for conversion. The only thing your browser downloads is the HEIC decoder itself, the first time you convert a photo.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos by default. It stores a photo in about half the space of a JPG at similar quality, but many Windows programs, websites and upload forms still don't accept it.

Will the JPG look the same?

Yes, very close. The JPG is saved at high quality (92 out of 100) at the same size in pixels, and the photo keeps its orientation and colours. It will usually be a larger file than the HEIC, because JPG compresses less efficiently.

Is the photo's location kept?

No. Location, camera details and other metadata aren't copied to the JPG, so you can share it without revealing where it was taken.

Does it work with Live Photos and HDR photos?

Yes, for the still photo. A Live Photo's video is a separate file and isn't included. iPhone HDR photos convert to a standard JPG without the extra HDR brightness. Photos saved in a pure HDR format aren't supported yet.

Can I convert several photos at once?

Not yet. Photos are converted one at a time: choose another photo after downloading each JPG.

Is there a file size limit?

You can convert HEIC photos up to 50 MB and up to 100 megapixels, which covers photos from every iPhone.
